Pioneer Donation: Pete and Hilda Etheredge
Donated by Mark Etheredge, Vicky Etheredge and Steven Etheredge
Some would say the peach cobbler and home-made bread were Grandmom's best, and it would be easy to think the tractor ride with Peepaw or the milk shakes he'd make us at night were his best. But we knew what it was. It was the smiles on their lips and in their eyes and their hugs and his warm handshake.
Born during the horse and buggy days when mules pulled the plows and when children's studies at night were under kerosene lanterns or candle light, our grandparents saw great and wonderful changes take place when life moved into the age of astronauts and computer technology. And they enjoyed us, enjoyed being with their grandchildren. We so appreciate their sharing with us the wholesomeness of Roscoe and its wonderful farming community.
These special people, just a generation or two from pioneers in the area, were patient with our deeds and misdeeds, encouraging for our futures, comforting with our injuries, and always the same supportive loving grandparents. As a tribute to all they meant to us, we wish to make this contribution in appreciation of our many pleasant memories of Pete (C. C.) and Hilda Etheredge and their friends and our relatives in the Roscoe area where we spent many enjoyable summer vacations and holidays.
