Ride The Wind™ Bikeathon 2007
Ride the Wind '07 Bikeathon set to take place on Saturday, October 6th 2007 starting at 9am is what we hope to be the first of an annual bikeathon that will not only help to promote wind energy in West Texas but will also promote healthy living and caring for the children of the Big Country.
Ride the Wind is set to take place in the midst of the world's most intensive wind energy region, a place that many people never have a chance to see up close let alone go biking through. As the racers ride through the turbines many of them will be seeing wind turbines closer than ever and getting a peak into the industry that everyone is so curious about.
The event is intended to last all morning and some into the afternoon; there will be a 35 mile course for adults to ride and a 7-10 mile course for children. The biking will then be followed up by some healthy grub and live music. Participants will be charged an entry fee of $20 for the adult course and $15 for the children's course. While this fee can help cover some cost, it just won't be enough to put on the kind of quality event that can grow annually into something greater. This is why we need the help of some great sponsors; funds obtained from the sponsors will help us to pay for T-shirts, food, equipment, banners, etc... All sponsors will be given a generous amount of recognition and advertisement based on the sponsorship level they choose.
Finally all proceeds from Ride the Wind™ Bikeathons will go to the Children's Miracle Network (www.childrensmiraclenetwork.org) based at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. This hospital is one used by children all over the Big Country and is always in need of funds for equipment, research, or just day-to-day expenses. Our hope is that Ride the Wind Bikeathons could become one of their biggest fundraisers as well as one of the biggest events in Texas. As a matter fact work has already begun on a much larger event to include more serious cyclist in 2008. So again, this bikeathon will not only support an excellent cause but it will also promote healthy living and the wind industry which will only continue to become an even greater part of life here in West Texas.
